I still dont know why the Samurai genre keeps enthralling me over and over again. Seibei Iguchi Hiroyuki Sanada is a samurai mourning the death of his wife who had dealt with consumption, is raising his two girls Miki Ito, Erina Hashiguchi , also taking care of his senile mother Reiko Kusamura , doing some farming, wood work for extra money. A guilt-haunted samurai warrior attempts to stop a massacre taking place. While I enjoyed the Last Samurai and it's message of questioning western cultural imperialism Twilight Samurai is a film on whole different level. A talented but troubled Edo Period swordsman, Kanemi Sanzaemon. The Twilight Samurai is about all the usual topics of the genre, but most of all about how a life so intertwined with upholding honor takes it's toll on all aspects of personal life as a result of sacrifices. The performances are superlative; never showy, always quiet, but stand-out against the muted colours of the scenery, the shadowy indoors, the greying faces of a time coming and going.

The final 30 minutes was brilliant and the movie has great cinematography. As the feudal Japan era draws to a close, a widower samurai experiences difficulty balancing 2 young daughters, an aged mother, clan loyalties, and the sudden reappearance of his childhood sweetheart. FIrst one I checked after my mid-semester exams. Twilight Samurai dk the opposite in everyway and in everyway it is a better film that is bound to move to tears the hardest of yall out there.
